We often talk about our “priorities.” The truth is, there can only be one true “priority.” There’s always ONE thing that gets elevated over EVERYTHING else. While it’s true that priorities can change and get shifted to different spots on your list of most important things, the fact remains that we all must choose one thing that gets top billing in lives.
As Christians, we like to say that God is our priority. I would argue that the way many of us live our lives indicates otherwise. Sometimes I see these things get wrongly placed in the top spot in my life:
- my kids
- my wife
- my career
- the image I want to portray
- my finances
And sometimes, I actually get it right. Sometimes my relationship with my heavenly Father gets the pole position. It’s not hard to look back and see that when my life has been best, it’s because I’ve made God THE MOST important thing in my life.
Matthew 6:33 says, “Seek FIRST the kingdom of God and his righteousness, and ALL THESE THINGS will be given to you as well.”
I think I’m getting better at it. But I still have a long way to go.
